Guerilla costuming

Lizz & me

Today the interns were informed around 11am that we'd be representing the festival at a donor event at 6pm. In 1740's period costume.
I was pretty excited about this idea except for the fact that at 11am, we had no costumes completed!

We worked in the costume shop from 12-6p, working our butts off. The result was pretty good, albeit held on in some places by safety pins, but nonetheless acceptable costumes. My costume for the actually show hasn't been constructed yet so I wore Rosaline's costume, but the skirt was waaaay too big and the top was waaaayy too small. The result? A ton of safety pins and a cape to cover the back where it was all stuck together hastily.

There is a press photo of our band of five floating around somewhere. Supposedly it will be emailed to us, and I'll post it here on the blog. My dress had a pretty blue brocade skirt, with a lace off the shoulder top and a purple cape. The men were in breeches, vests, coats, hats, and even my one friend got to wear a wig. We thought he looked like George Washington.

Patrick as George Washington/Lord Montague

The donor event was technically a "pajama party" for several non-profits located in Louisville, and generous people came ready to make donations to the charity of their choice. Our purpose there, as interns dressed up in costumes, was to represent the festival and try to solicit donations while the Macbeth actors were actually doing their show. All sorts of crazy costumes were there...some people in lizard suits and women actually inside of tables serving hors d'oeuvres are the ones that stood out in my memory.

The "after-party" for the donor event was held in a trendy museum/bar, and there were some interesting entertainment acts like an acrobat who twisted herself into a curtain/rope thing and did all sorts of tricks mid-air, a lady who put herself into a balloon, and a really bad drag queen. By 9:30pm, I was so ready to go home, put away the costumes and go to bed.
