White Sand/Blue Water...this is my job?

We had a first "on the road" show in Florida this week to a packed house of 1,400 kids. The first actor went onstage, and from the screaming, you would have thought she was Hannah Montana. The kids were so wildly responsive. During my disco number (as well as every other song, including the slow ones), they were clapping along. Major props to our fantastic sound guy who worked his magic on the mics so we could be heard over all of that noise!

It was apparent that these children were underexposed to the theater and didn't know how to express their appreciation appropriately. What was very clear was that they were having a great time and that they loved our show, which is why we came. I was a rock star for a day.

The next day we went into a public middle school to do some theater workshops with 6th graders. Hello, flashbacks! I was so impressed by how emotionally available these children were. They were so eager to participate. The best was when their teacher told us the stories of specific children, how they usually don't speak more than a few words, but our workshop brought them out of their shells, if only for 40 minutes.

Today we have another 2 shows at a lovely arts center (The crew has been looking forward to working here, there's been a lot of positive hype about this venue), and then we start our 3 day weekend off in beautiful Florida!

Our hotel is literally across the street from a pristine white sand beach. Thank you, booking department!
