The Thrifty Actor: Part IV

What up, Abe?

Lets Make a Trade (i.e. the Power of Asking)

Much like in the modeling world where people trade time for product, you can save a few buckeroos by trading your valuable time for education. Keep your eyes peeled for Workstudy Programs, where you may work for a few hours a week in exchange for free classes. Dance studios are known for offering these programs, and some theater schools. Sometimes if they don't have an advertised workstudy, it can't hurt to ask. They may need to fill empty seats before the start of the semester and let you take the class.

Discounts!

If you are a member of Actor's Equity, check out the sweet discount page under the "member's only" sign in page. You can get discounts on rental cars, theater tickets, and even a $40 rebate on new shoes through the Conrad Cantzen Shoe Fund. If you aren't AEA, become a member of The Actor's Center  and get discounts on classes and even theater tickets in the DC area.

If you have a Triple A membership (which if you drive, you probably do) or if you are a student (or still have your old college ID), you may get 10% off at many arts organizations. Always ask!
