The Thrifty Actor: Part V

Score Free Tickets - A Lesson in Social Media

Every theater that I know of in DC has a Facebook presence and many of them have a Twitter. Follow all of them. When shows go into previews, aka, they are ready for an audience but not quite ready to open for press reviews, many times they need to fill empty seats in the audience, or sell tickets at lower-than-usual prices. Follow them on these platforms to receive up-to-date notices on these hot deals!

New Groups/News Letters

Check out YahooGroups or GoogleGroups to get emails from other online users interested in group-specific subjects. I've found multiple free ticket announcements especially to the National Symphony Orchestra. (Also a great way to find out about auditions in the community theater scene.)

If you like a theater, join its mailing list. You never know what they might send out...discounts, freebies, open houses. Its a good way to stay on top of what is going on and sometimes score free stuff! The Kennedy Center has the Attend program for discount tickets for patrons 17-25, which is mostly email based.
