City Farmer's Market

There is a terrific, 24-hour farmer's market located three blocks from my apartment. Last week I stopped for a photo-op, but today I came to do some damage.

Lets just say that there will be some serious cooking in the near future.

Such a wide array of fresh products, many things you'd expect to find, but some items I'd never heard of before. Lots of dried fruits and beans, and tons of fresh lettuces and cabbages, many of which I didn't recognize the names. (I'll go back for the names later...I know I'm being rather vague.)

Most of their stock was fresh ingredients, but while I was poking around in the back for some bread, I found my favorite aisle....

The international aisle!!!! I literally flipped out. I'm talking a little hop, a little shout of excitement, perhaps a even little dance. Boxes upon boxes of spices, and gallon-sized bags with names on them that you only see in restaurants. Many labels were just in Arabic. Oh, hold me back.

My afternoon at the farmer's market, providing me a week's plus worth of groceries only cost me $25.06.

I hopped across the street to the chain grocery store for three items, and my bill was $10. Seems expensive in comparison.

In conclusion, fresh, natural, and unprocessed produce is cheap, ample, and so much fun to shop for. It makes me dance!

  1. Farmer's markets are so underrated. Why go to a grocery store and buy expensive fruits & veggies loaded with chemicals when you can go to a farmer's market and get them at a beyond reasonable price? I remember visiting the local farmer's market when I was a little girl...I used to check out the other stuff they sold there (handmade jewelry, purses, etc.) It was a mini-wonderland for me.

  2. Totally agree with you! It was like a dollar store, for produce!
